The USAF Kirtland Air Force Base coin commemorates the Nuclear Weapons Center(NWC) as the center of expertise for nuclear weapon systems for the United States Air Force, and “Team Kirtland,” the multiple units that call Kirtland AFB ‘home’ and who develop and provide specialized products and delivery to sustain the finest nuclear weapon systems in the world.

The Nuclear Weapons Center has two subordinate wings, the 498th Nuclear Systems Wing and the 377th Air Base Wing. Kirtland is also home to Defense Threat Reduction Agency, Air Force Safety Center, Air Force Inspection Agency, Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center, the 58th Special Operations Wing, Space Development and Test Wing, the New Mexico Air National Guard 150th Fighter Wing, Directed Energy and Space Vehicle Directorates of the Air Force Research Laboratory, the National Nuclear Security Administration, and Sandia National Laboratories.

The obverse of this challenge coin is a representation of the Base and Center logo, surrounded by “Team Kirtland” and “Kirtland AFB, NM.” The coin is highlighted with rich enamels, the reverse being the Air Force emblem in brilliant blue and white.
